Card payments - terminals

A number of components are required for a retail outlet to be able to accept card payments. First and foremost, is a terminal that can communicate with Samport. This can be a modern POS terminal or an independent unit. Both are able to read card data electronically via the magnetic strip or chip on the card. You also need an agreement with a bank to settle payments and Samport that can process this type of transaction.

Samport supports a range of terminal suppliers. This means that our customers can choose from a large variety of terminal types as stand alone, integrated, Pin Entry Device (PED) and wireless/portable terminals.

The stand alone has a processor plus a modem or network card to communicate with Samport. The terminal has an integral receipt printer and can be connected to registers with EFT support.
The integrated terminal has software installed in the terminal. The terminal has an open and locked application part which means that customised applications can be loaded in the terminal. The terminal is also suitable for self-service outlets.
A PED (Pin Entry Device) enabling the customer to enter a PIN code. All terminals supplied by Samport are enabled with the new chip based card standard EMV. Samport also offers wireless/portable payment terminals with a built in GPRS unit.
